Scottish Boxing Champ Josh Taylor Knocks Out Injuries with Focused Shockwave Therapy!
LifePlus Clinics has had the privilege of working with Josh Taylor, a world-renowned boxing champion with an impressive record of accomplishments in the ring. However, Josh's path to success has not been without obstacles.
In 2019, Josh sustained a hand wrist injury during a match against Jose Ramirez in Las Vegas. Despite winning the match, the injury left him with pain, stiffness, and a limited range of motion in his wrist and hand. After struggling to recover fully, Josh thought his only option was surgery.
Thankfully, Josh sought the advice of his coach, Terry McCormack, who recommended non-invasive focused shockwave therapy. Terry had learned about the therapy's benefits from Nicola Duncan, an ultra-marathon runner who had undergone shockwave treatment with Helen How, an osteopath and shockwave expert at How Osteopathic Clinic in Edinburgh.
After undergoing an assessment and a detailed discussion of his condition, Josh underwent a four-week course of focused shockwave therapy to aid his rehabilitation. The treatment proved to be fruitful, enabling Josh to return to full training and keep his hands strong and pain-free, whilst avoiding risky surgery.
Focused shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing in the affected area. This therapy has been used for a range of musculoskeletal conditions, including plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and rotator cuff injuries. It is particularly beneficial for athletes as it allows them to recover faster from injuries and return to the sport they love.
In January 2023, Josh suffered another injury while training in Liverpool, tearing his plantar fascia tendon and experiencing excruciating pain in his foot. However, this time, he and his coaches did not hesitate to recommend focused shockwave therapy to aid his recovery, alongside wearing a boot to optimise pain reduction and tissue recovery.
Josh's experience with focused shockwave therapy is a testament to the effectiveness of this non-invasive treatment for athletes, helping them to overcome injuries and perform at their best. By accelerating bone healing and regeneration, this therapy allowed Josh to recover from his hand and foot injuries faster and return to the ring stronger than ever.
At LifePlus Clinics, we believe that recovery is not just about treating the injury but also about providing the athlete with the support they need to return to their sport with confidence. That is why we offer a comprehensive range of services to our clients, including physiotherapy, massage therapy, and acupuncture.
Physiotherapy is a crucial part of injury rehabilitation, and our team of experienced physiotherapists work with clients to develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to their needs. This plan may include exercises to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and restore range of motion, as well as manual therapy to reduce pain and stiffness.
Massage therapy is another valuable service that we offer at LifePlus Clinics. Massage therapy can help reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow, and promote relaxation. It can also be used to aid recovery from injuries by increasing the circulation of blood and nutrients to the affected area.
Acupuncture is another service that we offer at LifePlus Clinics. Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body. This therapy can help reduce pain, improve circulation, and promote healing.
At LifePlus Clinics, we believe that injury rehabilitation is not just about treating the injury but also about providing the athlete with the support they need to return to their sport with confidence. Our experienced team of physiotherapists, massage therapists, and acupuncturists work together to provide clients with the best possible care, tailored to their needs.
